The point is, you do not need a computer to use the internet. Case in point, which at the same time shows MS' understanding of the fact, is WEBTV. WebTV boxes are not computers the last I checked
Um, you may want to check again. WebTV is most certainly a computer, in every definition of the word.
Which exactly is my point. Bill wants us to care about windows to acces internet or to perform ecommerce. Ecommerce makes the OS point moot, hence, Bill's paranoia about it. If I don't care about windows to do the above, I won't buy it. I could do ecommerce and surfing on a PalmPilot. I can't carry my computer (or care about a laptop) with me. Just an example.
The point is, you can do e-commerce with Windows. Windows and IE is an excellent platform for doing e-commerce. So it doesn't hurt Windows at all - it drives the sale of new computers, which drives the sale of Windows. If E-commerce could not be done using Windows, it may hurt MS.
You could do e-commerce with a PalmPilot. Unless you wanted to see color, hi-res pictures of what you were buying. Or print an invoice on the spot. It's a way to do it, just not the best one. |
