Our generation isn't big on YouTubers, but if I had to pick two that are worth checking out, it would be Mark Rober and Perog (ScammerPayback). This video teams them together to explain how Indian call center scams cover their tracks.

As to how people get scammed in the first place, it's typically some elderly woman being informed that they are due a refund for discontinued software that will crash their computer if not removed. They then get the victim to install TeamViewer so the scammer can remotely access their computer.

To get the refund, the victim is instructed to log into their bank account. The scammer doesn't then wire money to himself, which would be traceable, but rather distracts the person long enough to spoof the screen to show he had accidently added a zero or two to the "owed" amount (depending on how much money she had in her account). The scammer then pretends he royally screwed up and will be fired if the victim doesn't send them back the difference, sometimes saying the victim can keep some of it for being so understanding. If the victim is too skeptical, the scammer will then install ransomware and say "see, I told you", thereby essentially forcing the victim to go to the bank to assure their computer is then unlocked. The victim is then instructed where to mail the package, which is where this video picks up...
