From the bulwark:
Charlie:

I just received this from a friend who has retired to Florida.

"I was invited to a wedding this coming Friday. A college roommate of my youngest daughter was getting married. They had made grand plans and explored venues. She and her fiancé are getting married in their back yard with a handful of friends. I’m “invited” because I have a nice camera. (Doubt they know how true that is. My camera makes much better photographic decisions than I ever would.)

But, I have a “cold” and wanted to get tested before I even joined this small group. [name redacted] and I set off on an odyssey.

As we traveled to the first advertised drive through site, XXX called ahead. An appointment was required. In order to meet the requirements for an appointment, you had to have symptoms we didn’t have. Being old and congested didn’t qualify.
Next two sites, as we traveled north, did not actually have drive-thru testing. You had to come inside and be examined by one of their clinic doctors (residents) who would decide if you qualified for testing"

Last drive through was 15 miles north in Ormond Beach. XXX called them on the way. They had a long list of qualifications. We weren’t nearly sick enough.
Florida is sure keeping the number of cases down - especially among us old folk. If you stop testing old people; the average age of infected people comes down. Duh.

Meanwhile, the bride I might go photograph on Friday had a younger cousin (29) in South Florida. She was sick, tested positive for Covid, was told she wasn’t sick enough for hospitalization, and died at home - 29.

So, Florida has an increase in cases, but it’s mostly younger, healthy people. We’ve got plenty of hospital space.

It’s all bullshit. Don’t believe anything you here from these con men. It’s all bullshit."

To say he was upset is an understatement. He is religious and highly educated I have not seen him swear previously. If you use this please delete their names.

I really like The Bulwark

Thank You
Leo Driscoll
