More Info etc...
I got the chance to look at the article in Internet Business and I will briefly summarize for those of you either not living close to a Borders, Barnes and Noble, or those of you too cheap to spend the $4.99 ....(I'm not gonna copy the article)
It gives a brief backgrounder on what Jaws L5 technology...it states JAWS L5 uses an algorithm that can be intitiated by an infinite variety of keys. The algorithm uses ueach key as a different part of the mathematical formula. Different keys can be used in sequence and allow different users to access different portions of the data (a good idea if you think about it). It also lets you allow the minimun number of keys necessary to decrypt a file therby requiring 2 or more people to work together ot retrieve data
The software uses a random number generator to find a different starting point so the data gets encrpyted differently each time even whne using the same number of keys. THIS MAKES REVERSE ENGINEERING THE ORIGINAL EQUATION OR KEY VERY DIFFICULT !!!
They end by saying NewWare (Novell) is not supported by Jaws but plans to be in upcoming releases...the article states "we highly recommend this product as it demonstates a strong step to personal encryption w/o involving the IS dept."
There you have it, the bar chart showed Jaws receiving high marks for all the categories (usability, feature set, value and installation)...Now unless I subscribe to internet business or check out this message board...how the heck is ANYONE going to know about this product?
Barrie, actually, I was not kidding one bit about the $1,000 and the more I think about it, the CEO should put up his house, and as I thought about it, EACH EMPLOYEE in the company should join in with $1,000 of their own...think about it...take a picture of the whole JAWS team in front of Alcatraz and say, the only difference between JAWS and this place is that NO ONE has ever broke out of JAWS.... Put that in the Wall Street Journal (or other print media widely read) and then the pledge of the CEO, all the way down to the boy in the mailroom boy (or girl) that we'll give you $ X if you can break it etc...including Roberts house... I'll bet you CNBC, Bloomberg, CNN, and Reuters all pick up that one and run with it...what a stunt huh?
I don't look at it as "contests" Barrie, vs. contracts.... Bandwith and security are the two biggest issues with the growth of the internet. Let Cisco, Ascend, and lucent play around with the bandwith problem. Right now, JAWS is nothing more than a 3rd string quarterback with RSA as "the starter"...the only way JAWS ever becomes a starter is one of two ways: (1) RSA breaks their leg --don't count on that happening.... (2) JAWS says hey, they league is big enough for us to start our own team....
Again, if you are absolutely sure about your product, there is nothing wrong with cockiness....look at Billy Gates, Ellison....two college dropouts who had a vision as well as some cockiness within.
The clock is tickin'
