William Westmoreland had been attacked consistently by the MSM (and remember who's side THEY were on) before he retired out of the public eye.
But we owe Westmoreland our gratitude for the kind of service few Americans will ever understand:
1) Working-without resigning-for a president who was as militarily incompetent as Hitler, and interfered even MORE than Hitler.
2) Overseeing the incredible ADAPTABILITY of American forces who had been sent to a war that was unimaginable by those who had trained them, and those who had CONCEIVED that training.
3) While it's still obscured by our Leninist historical revisionists, and may be for many more years, Westmoreland-despite the handiaps of 1) and 2) above-PREVAILED on the ground. And when he left , the Viet Cong were destroyed, and had to be replaced by the Soviet-client army of North Vietnam.
4) As a result of 1) 2) and 3) he was a KEY FORCE in creating the modern ADAPTABLE US forces-a job that Rumsfeld is now in the process of completing. This is as important militarily as the Nixon Reagan one-two punch was geopolitically, in destroying the Soviet Union, and getting us ready for the current war with Islam.
His successor, Patton protege' Creighten Abrams, was sent in to fight a far different war: a rear-guard action covering an orderly retreat. His "mobile fortress" of armored columns, controlling the roads and urban areas, kept the Soviet-client columns OUT, while the American forces withdrew with the MINIMUM number of casualties.
Abrams did his duty admirably, as his mentor would have expected, and kept his MOUTH SHUT on the obscenity of it all, as his mentor would NEVER have been able to do.
May all three of these heros RIP, assured that America has, and WILL survive, partly because of their courage... |
