They live in remote places like Concord (NE) and Hollister (S), where housing is semi-reasonable, and highway commutes take literally hours (not so much the distance, but rather lack of economic/political clout to build proper trains or freeways).

Also, some of the recent immigrant communities are known to pack many, many extended family members in one housing unit.
