I agree with that 100%. But sometimes historians have to deal in hypotheticals so i will pose the question to you. Knowing what you know now about wmds, the insurgency, policy changes in libya,syria out of lebanor, the wot etc etc. and if you could time travel and if you were made President,(and the WH was moved to Hawaii to accomodadate you) would you have still gone into iraq? For me this is no easy question at all. I think the serious opponents to the war as opposed to the wild eyed leftys, would make a strong case to have concentrated on al quaeda, while using failing containment on iraq to buy some time and concentrating more fully on Iran and NK.
One of the reasons i think we really went into iraq is that we viewed it then as low hanging fruit which it certainly turned out not to be. Mike
