Rx, <Which is a faster processor, the P4 or the G4? The G4 is rated at 500MHz but its 128 bit as opposed to 1.4GHz but 64 bit.>

I think you may have been listening to Mac fanatics a little too closely. The PowerPC G4 is considered to be a 32-bit processor. The only 128-bit stuff G4 does is their AltiVec features, but AltiVec is similar to the SSE and SSE2 features of Pentium 4. So if PowerPC is being called 128-bit, so should Pentium 4.

So you're in the market for a new computer? For people who ask me this question, I ask them, "How much are you willing to spend?" I also ask, "How do you plan on using your computer?"

You can get an excellent 866 MHz system from Dell for $1300 at www.dell4me.com. For people surfing the Internet and running the occasional game or other compute-intensive task, this computer should last you for at least three years.
