Hi John Soileau; Re: "... missile shield is directed toward state terrorism ..."

When governments do it, it ain't terrorism. It's war. Unlike crime, war is never having to say you're sorry.

I'm not so worried about the threat of terrorism in the US. I think that the 9/11 attacks were a combination of lucky Arab terrorists, and sleepy US policemen. I doubt that that combination will be repeated anytime soon. The fact that we haven't seen anything happen here for the many months since 2001 is positive evidence for this view.

To me, the primary goal in the major part of the "war on terror" is apparently to frighten the cowards of the United States into accepting the need for a change towards more of a militarized state or police state. I don't mean that the goal is Germany, 1939, but simply note that the electorate, like any other human population, is easily frightened, and when it is frightened, it tends to prefer leaders of the "man on the horse" type, and that this tends to give advantages to one party over the other.

Nor do I mean to suggest that only the Republicans practice this BS. On average, the Democrats are worse, with their constant refrain about how pollution is going to kill us all, or how overpopulation is going to make us starve (real soon now). They've been saying this since I was a little boy. You'd think that they hadn't even bothered to download the statistics on life expectancy, and use the new information to update their old BS. Because of this, I normally vote Republican, but the current situation is way out of hand, so I might have to flip for a while.

As further evidence that the "war on terror" has little to do with actually stopping terror, go read a few weeks of www.jpost.com and see what life is like in a society that really is under a (weak and ineffectual but annoying) terror attack.

Yes, this country is unprepared for terror attacks from one end to the other. The airport inspections are a joke. You think this means that we are threatened? I suggest instead that it means that our police (i.e. the CIA and FBI) are using human intelligence to stop the terrorists, all the rest is just puffery, BS to allow the public to think that they're doing their part, making a little sacrifice for the glorious war. I may not join Delta Force, but by God, I can submit to a body cavity search with a smile on my face.
