Post WWII American sci-fi is the true legacy of American literature. Like so many art forms that quietly reached their peak, it won't receive appropriate recognition for decades.

We have become a nation of mumbling lawyers, who could NEVER land on the moon, build the interstate highway system, St Lawrence Seaway, Hoover dam, or-very possibly-never successfully defend ourselves against barbarian Islam.

During this period all the unbound, unrestricted imagination we have produced is to be found in the written words of Larry Niven, Robert Heinlein and many of their colleagues and peers from the Golden Age of predictive fiction. Roddenberry was a giant among them. May he RIP...
