For our U.S. friends, I'll mention that your reference to RRSP accounts means "Registered Retirement Savings Plans" much like their IRA and/or 401K accounts, I believe. All contributions (to established limits) are tax deductible and capital appreciation, dividends, interest and compound interest within the account is non taxable through the years until regular withdrawals begin commencing at the age of 69.
