You're doing fine articulating your position, Dave. It occurs to me that if all the nations on earth were focused on doing as little environmental harm as possible, however, that many jobs would be created making products out of recycled materials, and in ecotourism. This is already happening to some small degree.

I also think that there is a lot of denial about how much harm is caused by the way we manage the environment, and of course most Americans don't want to sacrifice any small part of their extravagant use of resources (we use 25% of the earth's total).

Obviously, if we all decide on the wrong course of action, or decide not to decide because there is so much disagreement, we risk so much climatic change and rain forest loss and species extinction that the effects may be irreversible.

Thank you for the reference on the book! Someone on another thread asked me recently why environmentalism necessarily led to redistribution of wealth, and I could not explain the theory very well. Although I think you and I disagree, I appreciate your post.
