My vote for the silliest embedded systems are the new electronic
pets that are just showing up here in the USA. They are being
imported from Japan where they have been a big hit for the
last couple of years. They are worn as necklaces and a simple LCD
screen shows how the "pet" is doing. If they don't get
plently love and food (ie., button pushes), they die from
neglect.
