The significance of Normandy invasion was preserving Europe (Western Europe) After Stalingrad, came Kursk where major tank battle lost by Germans spelled Hitler's kaput...The rest was a matter of time and many more Soviet casualties..(Stalin were more than ready to take more casualties even in Pacific) Normandy made victory easier but had no ultimate outcome as far as Hitler was concerned...He could not hold Balkans, never mind Eastern Europe and Russian onslaught... Did Normandy played great role? No doubt...Was it second Stalingrad? That is revision of World War II history.. As for Moscow, precise plans were drawn to evacuate Stalin and industry into Sverdlovsk (Ural Mountains) With winter (Hitler never thought that weakened Soviet army that was humiliated even by Finns in Finlandia campaign would last into the winter) German army was doomed...Napoleomn ironically made very same miscalculation...Russia was just too vast of the territory...
