Hi, mph!! Welcome to the Feelings thread, incidentally. Would you like to tell us a little something about yourself? Do you have dogs? Raccoons? Do you like earthquakes or talking about Elvis? I see we both admire Joe Kernen!!!
Anyway, regarding your comments about children and money, what I notice is that children are becoming more sophisticated about money. Nineties parents, no matter how affluent, don't seem to take money for granted anymore. Their children hear them discussing it, budgeting, etc., and so they develop intelligent attitudes themselves. My daughter's friend, for example, was given $20 to spend at a fair our family invited her to. Instead of buying junk food or earrings or something silly, she went without anything "extra"--we bought her lunch and paid her way in--and saved the entire $20 because she wanted to buy another friend a really nice birthday gift. That was prudent and mature, in my opinion, for a young teenager.
I know that my daughter will have to work a little to help pay her own way, and I did not. I think it builds character!!! Anyway, parents who totally spoil their children and teach them nothing about reality or managing resources are the ones who are to blame if their children turn out badly, not the children themselves, don't you think? |
