Allen,

HDTV looks like the most interesting embedded battle on the horizon.
My understanding is that everyone in the USA will
have to junk their current TV sets in 8 years and switch over
to HDTV sets. Looks like Mr. Gates is making sure that
Microsoft will be a player in this arena. He knows, better then
anyone else, the importance of jumping when standards
change in a marketplace. First he gets in bed with NBC and
creates MSNBC. Then he spends $427 million for WebTV and announces
that Windows CE is headed for TV sets. Now
today Microsoft is throwing a cool $1 billion into Comcast, a
cable TV provider. Seems like Microsoft is investing up and down
the TV food chain and will be will position for whatever happens
with HDTV. What's your take on how the whole HDTV game is going
to be played out?
