It is a shame that 95% of the American Indians died of unfamiliar diseases. Of course, the European settlers did not intend to have unfamiliar diseases; so this is an "accident" of separate peoples encountering each other. A shame, yes. Genocide? No.

Of course, there was a later genocide of the remaining Indians by Europeans, and this is to be condemned in the strongest terms, just as right-thinking people condemn the Islamofascist genocides that ranged from Spain to China.
