Mark: I can see that your thoughts are not that divergent with many Christians. I wholeheartedly agree that God loves ALL people, from the "worst" (think of the most vile murderer) to the "best" (someone like Mother Theresa). That is why He sent his one and only Son, Jesus, to die on the cross for both the vile murderers and the "good" people like Mother Theresa. However, if Jesus' death wasn't to save us from something, then it was pointless - and it wasn't pointless. Jesus' death was the start of the grace that "Amazing Grace" refers to.
