Hi Stephen : it's too soon for me to call this a home run, I have
some profit now locked in, and a pot full of puts out in april
paid for by the run down in the last week, but it's still far
from being a home run, any way it's about time I got one right,
guess all my time on the old BBSes before the web got going like
it is now helped me figure this one out, Thoes LD cos with fiber
backbone, ( that AOL has to rent ) will evenutally take over,
of course we will still have the little ISPs, and like AT&T
is taking her time..about it..They just offered me a month free,
providing I use them as a LD ( I'm on Sprint ) but they have made
me a tempting offer including a $50 check..for switching..and a
flat 15 cent a min rate for LD, at any time..and the 19.95 for
unlimeted internet hook up, to get our LD biz they can
run the ISP part at cost..with that kind of advantage AOL don't
have a chance..AT&T just hasn't pushed yet..when they do AOL
will have to go back to what she was a BBS , a sort of FIDO net..
maybe just a BYOA ( bring your own access ) type thing..and that
might let them live, but her hey day is history.
She could be to the web what FIDO net..was and still is to
the BBS, well sort of..I still log onto FIDO from time to time,
my how the traffic has dimininshed over there.
But they have some good stuff.
