Curtis -- Great article! Thanks for sharing. "Have you joined or founded one of these new photonic startups??" "No," I replied. "Then we must be the only two academics left in this field who haven't," he quipped. Hmmm! This rang a bell as just this morning I had coffee with the CEO of a start-up who spent much of his adult career at KPMG. I shared some of my frustrations with a couple GG touts and he said, "Oh, yes, built-to-flips." He went on to say the SEC is targetting this area and watching the carriers and/or vendors who are in essence paid to deploy their products. I believe the time will come when new companies will be creditable depending on who backs them. If IBs like Goldman Sachs and MSDW play it right, they'll keep their standards high and develop their own "Intel Inside" basis of trust --- the kind of endorsement savvy investors will recognize without needing to rely on Elmer Gantry-type stock promoters. Perhaps I dream. . . Pat
