Predictions and stock values:

I have read a zillion predictions over the many years and they are almost always wrong. Conversly I seldom see anyone correctly predict the big monetary events i.e 1980/1987/2000/ 2nd industrial revolution i.e. commodities boom.

It seems we assume commodities are overvalued. But how can we predict the future growth of China and India? Who predicted $4 copper and $1.60 zinc. No one I can remember.

We have no models for what is manifesting economically. This is uncharted territory in many aspects. I will give Robert Samualson credit for saying we don't know why things are playing out the way they are e.g. huge liquidity and low interest rates.

China and India may prove a dynamic much greater than we think. The worldwide technological and industrial revolution may expand exponetially in a way we cannot predict.

The only three things I think I can see a little bit is a shortage of zinc and silver and I like Charters take on PGMs.

I think three other major variables we need to watch is the possibility of China's move towards hegemony (there are predictions China's navey will be larger than the US's in 9 years)and devolution in the mid east (how will that play out)and the inability of the US to service its debt in the face of a recession or depression.

The brave new world has arrived and I think we all sense it and are a bit nervous about it. I know the kids are.

Mining stock values: they havn't even reached 1987 levels yet let alone 1980 values; and this move looks to be bigger than 1980. So I think we are at the very beginning of this move??
