Like you, I haven't read any of her novels, but I'm tempted after reading a few critiques. Please give us your observations if you care to.

I picked up The Boys of Point Du Hoc at the library today. I'm 1/3 of the way through, and will no doubt finish later tonight. Brinkley starts out with a short history of how Rangers became an elite fighting team, and how they formulated as a group. That history goes back to the first settlers of America and the small contingents of men who "ranged" into the forest to track movement of the Indian population.

The concept grew during the French and Indian War (not surprisingly....a Scotsman by the name of Robert Rogers formed that group) on into the Revolutionary War, and on the Confederate side during the Civil War. There wasn't any formal military group organized until America decided to liberate Europe during WW2. Even then Eisenhower was sceptical until the Rangers managed to drive Rommel out of Africa and achieve success in Italy early on.
