Starbucks, yes. There are many facades in Japan.

I refrained from entering the recent debate on the virtues of American vs. Japanese cars. I have worked in the industry for about 16 years, and have much experience with the Japanese transplants and the North American OEM's.

As you may recall, the executives of Mitsubishi Motors in Normal, IL had much difficulty understand the Western dynamics of interaction between the sexes in the workplace. A bit of a culture breakdown in that case, but not such a big deal in Japan.

Of all the Japanese transplants, the Mitsubishi and Chrysler synergy seemed to emphasis the worst from each culture. Toyota and Honda were the great machines, oiled and seamless. Toyota was god to Ford.
