Well, that's an interesting point. The prohibition MSFT violated is against tying, not bundling. Bundling's legal, and this deal is bundling, not tying. These new database machines, if they really happen, will never be the only choice that Sun offers its customers. They aren't an ultimatum, they're just another product in the line. If somebody still wants to buy a regular Sun computer with Solaris and run Sybase on it, Sun will sell it to them.

Still this is bound to piss off IFMX and Sybase (do they still exist?) and any other DBMS vendor whose lunch Oracle is eating. Microsoft won't help them...so where will they go? Maybe SCOC (ggg)? The reaction will be interesting from the DBMS vendors and especially from Compaq, Dell & co.

Meantime I hope there's not too big a hit today because of the impeachment. But there probably will be.
