It's not a problem for the entire world. It's a problem, a problem which makes all other problems insignificant, but just for Israel. And for the U.S., if we continue to allow ourselves to be associated with (and pay for) Israel's self-destructive policies.
The sad thing is, the peace treaty has already been negotiated, in detail (the Geneva Accord, the final Taba proposal, and similar offers promoted by the Saudis), yet nobody wants to sign it.
The Israelis are fixed in their siege mentality. An American President could force a compromise peace on Israel. But neither Bush the Younger nor Kerry have shown any willingness to do that. The last President who tried, was, ironically, Bush the Elder. And the Israel Lobby forced him to back down.
So, unfortunately, the most likely future is, Israel continues colonizing Arab land, until the Arabs stop Israel with nukes. And, inevitably, Israel will retaliate. Hopefully, the rest of the world can stand clear of the carnage, and pick up the pieces afterward. |
