Monday May 14, 8:03 am Eastern Time Press Release SOURCE: McDATA Corporation EMC to Sell McDATA's Expanded Family of Products; McDATA Announces Expansion of Relationship With EMC BROOMFIELD, Colo., May 14 /PRNewswire/ -- McDATA® Corporation (Nasdaq: MCDT - news, MCDTA - news), a global leader in open storage networking solutions, announced today that it has expanded its relationship with EMC Corporation (NYSE: EMC - news), the world leader in information storage. EMC will sell McDATA's expanded family of products including its fibre-channel directors and fabric switches. EMC will continue to integrate McDATA management software into EMC's Connectrix Manager.
The expanded relationship enables EMC to sell McDATA's recently announced Galaxy-Class ED-6064 Director as the EMC Connectrix ED-64M director, which is at the core of the industry's storage area network infrastructure and offers the highest port count of any non-blocking single stage switching architecture, 99.999% high availability, fail over logic, hot code load and activation and redundant power and cooling throughout. ``This expanded relationship allows us to extend McDATA's family of products across our full line of Symmetrix® and CLARiiON(TM) storage systems,'' said Chuck Hollis, EMC's senior director of product marketing. ``Incorporating McDATA's products into our offerings widens EMC's already substantial lead in networked storage and provides customers additional options as they plan and expand their information storage networks.''
``EMC and McDATA have enjoyed a successful three-year relationship, delivering strategic products central to the networked storage explosion. EMC was the first OEM to market McDATA's ED-5000 Director -- selling it as the EMC Connectrix ED-1032 -- capitalizing on customer needs for creating highly available and scalable storage networks,'' said Mike Gustafson, McDATA vice president of worldwide sales. ``Now they're embracing McDATA's expanded family of products -- another giant step in extending our long standing relationship well into the future of storage.''
McDATA's current family of products and software include the ED-6064 Galaxy-Class Director, the ED-5000 Director, that established the core storage networking backbone in more than 50 percent of the Fortune 100 companies, the ES-3032 and ES-3016 Fabric Switches, departmental products that encompasses many of the high availability features found in data center offerings; as well as McDATA's Enterprise Fabric Connectivity (EFC) Manager, a software solution that enables IT managers to manage all switched components from a single console.
