a lot of the stuff Grant says is familiar arguments to regular posters here. but Grant is sort of like a scholar--he provides a lot of historical context and a bigger picture than one typically finds in Fleck or Russel or the like, and includes little "tidbits" that, combined with his excellent prose style, make his pieces a joy to read. this is a little similar to the way even critics of Bob Woodward praise his books for the attention to minor detail he brings.
