That is by a CPI calculator. Now they probably use interest rate and which includes inflation. If you compound the interest rate it should be correct.

I think you have to multi tier inflation. Some things inflate more than others. Take an average life and what is takes of each slot, and then that is the average inflation thingie. The inflation thingie index is probably more accurate than a CPI.

To get a thingie index, just take the price of a work alike in your life 20 years ago and today's price. It takes some doing, as there about 500 things you have to price.
