A Cost Assessment of Failed Immigration Policies By Chris Kelly July 26, 2005 03:36 PM The study "Deporting the Undocumented: A Cost Assessment" from the Center for American Progress says that it would cost $206 billion over five years to (mostly forcibly) deport 10 million illegal aliens (press release). That's a lot of money, and my first question is: "Who got us into this mess?" The answer: those administrations that looked the other way on illegal immigration, including presidents Bush and Clinton. In fact, the CAP is closely allied with the Clintons, so no doubt some at that center are partially responsible for the current situation. My second questions is: "How do we prevent those same people from running up an even greater tab?" And, my third question: "Should we trust the 'solution' offered by those who helped get us into this mess?" The CAP offers the McCain-Kennedy mass amnesty as a solution to the problem that they, their affiliates, and their "opponents" in the cheap labor lobby helped get us into. But, don't oppose McCain-Kennedy just because it's supported by those whose policies have been proven to have failed. There are many, many other reasons to oppose it as well.
