Swing will never die. Or is lindy another genre'?

Lindy is just the dance part of the swing genre. Like all dances, it's a fad that goes in and out with the public. Right now, it's out again. There is always a hard core of ballroom and lindy dancers that keep social dancing going, but the public is not part of it. The hottest dancing fad right now among the younger generation is Salsa, due to our heavy latin influence. "West Coast Swing" is not really a swing dance. It is a genre of it's own, very popular among middle age whites. It is almost as big as Salsa, but with an older crowd.

Standard "Arthur Murray" style ballroom was demonstrated on the summer dance show, "Dancing with the Stars." They did two minute "Show" versions. It takes a lot of work to learn, and will never be a major factor in our culture again. If I ever go back on the cruise ships as a dance host, I will be doing standard ballroom. I won't work the "QE2." They are aiming for the very wealthy crowd, and dance "International Style" ballroom, which I dislike. Too stagy. A friend of mine did a six month cruise with them, and they worked him three times a day. A lesson plus two dances. You quit with one lady and three more are waiting for you. Five hours a day.
