When I was in the USMC we were supplied by the Navy at least in my early time, I seem to recall be switched over to Army supply sometime during my enlistment. I remember under the navy we wore our boots inside out, ie smooth leather inside rough out but still were expected to spit shine them. As a result, so much polish was on those boots it would leave black marks on the deck as we walked across, driving the sailors that had to swab them up NUTS. haha.
I was always under the understanding that the advantage of the USMC to the Nation was that we could be deployed WITHOUT the President having to declare war. Went into Nigaragua to depose a dictator. No longer even remember his name, but I remember I was irritated as I was due for 6 week leave which was cancelled and I was shipped out. Remember saying I better not get killed and miss my leave. haha. jdn
