When I read more about the War of 1812 recently, I was surprised at how much of it was really an excuse to takeover Canada. I'm not particularly proud of it, but I have to admit that even now, I still want everything outside of Quebec to join the US; I probably would have agitated for war had I been around back then.

I'll apologize for saying this up front, but if nationhood is defined as the values and type of character that people have, I think there is no significant difference between Canadians and people in the upper midwest of the US. The Canadians I have known like to argue that they are more tolerant of differences and more liberal and I would agree that this is the case compared to most of the US, but here in Wisconsin and in Minnesota no one goes without health care and everyone receives access to a quality education.

So how about finally joining the US? We'll cut your timber and overfish your lakes, but you will be part of the greatest county in the world.

Again I apologize, I would never have said the above to a Canadians face, but on a bulletin board, I get a little braver.

Best regards,

Jeff
