It instantly loses several thousand dollars because it's used. Doesn't matter if it has 5 miles on it, it's been titled and thus is used. In order to re-sell the car it would have to be priced several thousand under new or who would buy it? That is the basic reason.

I can remember some compact cars like the Ford Fiesta as an example that were marked up 425 bucks at full sticker from dealer invoice. Now this doesn't count the hold back which would add 300 or so more but you can see you can't do much for discounting when you only have 700 in mark up at full sticker including hold back.
