When someone challenges you on a fact, DON'T take it personally!
And when you challenge someone on a fact, DON'T make it personal!
Ad hominem arguments are INVALID! There is NO ONE, not one single person, who has never gotten a fact wrong. Not me, not Rillinois, not geode, not anyone. Probably not even David, although I have yet to catch him on one. So can we please stick to the issues? My credibility, Rillinois' credibility, geode's credibility, etc. are IRRELEVANT. The only thing that matters is whether the assertions of fact are capable of verification. By that I mean that it is possible to check it via independent sources. This is how we can learn from each other: by challenging each other's assumptions, checking each other's facts, and examining each other's logic. But trying to shout each other down every time somebody admits to an error is NOT WORKING. |
