Resoring your disk using a Win98 backup...

The Backup program supplied with Windows needs Windows to run. If you format your disk, you'll need to install Windows before you can restore from your backup. This sounds worse than it really is.

The Windows installation floppy will get your system started and you can install Windows from your CD. Once Windows is installed, you can restore your system from your backup. This seems nuts...

The Windows you install is a mini-windows, crippled in its functionality, and of no use whatsoever, beyond running Windows Backup and restoring your system. But there's a trap: You must be able to supply the Product Key when asked.

To restore your system, follow these steps...

Boot your system with the startup disk, and make sure that your system can use the CD drive.

Format your disk.

Copy the files from Win98 folder of your CD to your disk.

Copy PCRESTOR.BAT and MSBATCH.INF from \Tools\Sysrec on your Win98 CD to the root (root folder) on your disk.

From the root folder on your disk, run PCRESTOR.

You'll be guided through the process.

Bye4Now, FD.

You may want to research PCRESTOR before you try using it.
