There're suggestion for AAPL to make Wintel machines cheaply and turn profit quick. Those who believe that AAPL can turn profit that way got to understand that DELL and GATE sell computers directly to consumers via web/phone/mail... AAPL is not doing this. Also, I remember that there're news saying that a name-branded PC maker (forgot the name) actually uses used parts to build new computer to achieve high profit margin. Do you mean you guys want to see AAPL to do these kind of ugly things to turn profit? I, personally, don't.

In fact, I kinda agree on CEO Amelio's idea of downsizing the company to target the crowd who always want the highest quality computer and best technology. My suggestion to CEO is that they should close/sell any division that can't turn profit by itself (actually CEO already address that). The top on my list appears to be "software other than OS". They should be able to save a bunch by bundling MS Works (although I hate MSFT personally) on Performa instead of writing the software (and tech support too) by themselves. And there're educational software. I don't remember seeing one edu S/W company can turn profit...

BTW, I think Newton is a great idea but seems too pricy for me to buy one for myself. Maybe try bundling it...
