Charles,

I won't respond by blindly stating that Clinton, Bush, or Gore are the source of the trouble in the Middle East. That said, there was a strategic error made shortly before Clinton left office.

In a hasty attempt to spur movement from both sides, which had a chance, albeit small, of succeeding, Clinton asked for a commitment from Arafat that the Palastinian people were not ready to make. Thus, Arafat was forced to decline, giving the appearance of rejecting the peace plan.

Some will argue that this strategic mis-step was caused by the ego of one striving for a "legacy", and was the source of the current bloodshed, others will claim that Clinton was behaving in the National interest.

I'll just sit and watch my portfolio shrink.
