Peer pressure is indeed important as you point out. And iraq may be the first part of a larger shiaa/sunni war that may one day involve iran and al quaeda on opposite sides. A better outcome would be the internal defeat of radical islamists of both varieties and a peace between shia and sunni like catholics and protestants i guess.
