Richard, I would like to make one additional point on I2O. On low-end
systems, there will be one i960RP/RD on the PC motherboard. This chip
will be capable of servicing multiple I/O devices - say the PCs LAN
interface and the EIDE/SCSI device subsystem, with multiple disks,etc.
As you can see, the $40 price of the i960 is amortized over multiple
devices, and at the same time allows the expensive CPU to achieve a
higher level of performance.
