I can't say Datek is a screw, but as they had difficulties recently esp. regarging performance and order execution, I was that unhappy with them.
For new shorts, i.e. stocks which have not been chased and shorted for months, datek is reliable and a short sale is done on the fly. It depends on one's estimates when to buy long, and sell out. On friday I had no troubles. But, I think when many people jump the boat, it might be more difficult with GERN.

But as GERN was almost not shorted recently, as everyone took cover far beyond, I have no idea why there should be no stocks for borrow around right now?
