You may be correct in that AOL will see new competition. However, they are too well entrenched in American homes today. Every month, as Prodigy switches to "cheaper" phone lines they are seeing their customers flock to AOL because AOL just sent them a disk with the Sunday paper for 1 month free and their lines are actually available. The past three weeks, no Massachusetts Prodigy customer has been able to get on-line. In Minneapolis/St. Paul service in virtually gone do to the new line switches. For all the bad press, AOL has got the best reliablility and greatest line capacity on a large scale by far. AOL will further gain market share for the next 6 months. After that, there may be some new assaults, but if your looking for AOL to lose money, it won't happen for years, if then.
