I agree.

However, it would have been interesting to repeat the last 15 years with a different outcome from Tiananmen Square. What would China be like today if the Party had lost it's grip on power. I suspect it would look much more like Russia does. It would have splintered into a number of countries, with some doing relatively better than others both economically and politically. I suspect that the main chunk called China in such a scenario would have much reduced status compared to the China we have now. From our perspective (and perhaps the rest of the world as well) that might well have been better.
