Hi Alan, no I haven't heard anything about T and 3Com, but it wouldn't surprise me. 3Com's Total Control is an attempt at the same kind of pervasive coverage as ASND gives to its MultiVoice, in its New Public Network model. Early on, their literature on these two architectures were almost indisinguishable, except for the emphasis each placed on certain standards. But each of these access platforms is capable of the same basic functions, each is flash adaptable to multiple vocoder/compression protocols on demand, and each accommodates H.323 along with hooks to SS7.

I don't know what T's choice is at this time. But I am fairly certain that they wont lock themselves in with a single vendor. Their m.o. is to lay down a set of rigid specifications that define their ultimate "service" that they will offer o the public, and then mold several vendors' products to fit that profile.

So, it wouldn't surprise me if they went with two or three different vendors, eventually, and each of those vendors met the bid requirements with exacting [and similar] capabilities.

Those are only my thoughts on the matter, and I could be wrong.

Regards, Frank Coluccio
