HP Wins CDMA Industry Award for Emergency 911 Location Solution

PALO ALTO, Calif., Jul 10, 2002 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- HP (NYSE: HPQ chart, msgs) today announced that it has received a major industry award for its emergency 911 location solution deployed by Sprint on its all-digital, all-PCS network in the state of Rhode Island.

The CDMA Development Group selected Sprint and HP, along with HP technology partners SignalSoft Corp. and SnapTrack, Inc., to receive the 2002 Innovative Solutions award. Presented at the 3G World Congress in Hong Kong, the award specifically recognizes the companies for the deployment of the first handset-based E911 Phase II service in the United States.

The Phase II E911 mandate requires wireless carriers to be able to locate wireless 911 callers within 50 meters 65 percent of the time and within 150 meters 95 percent of the time using a handset-based solution or within 100 meters using a network-based solution.
