I would spend a little money to find who is taking a large short position. Maybe a possible letter notifying these individuals that they are being watched etc..

I would make a statement NOW, clarifying and accounting methods and request a retraction from TheStreet.com. I would then follow that up with public statement indicating their SEC notification and that any attempts to manipulate the stock price through false statements or blatantly false remarks in stock chat rooms may lead to prosecution.

I totally disagree. Although I find the timing of the puts and the TSC article to raise some questions, the thought of the company "battling the shorts" strikes me as a bad idea. Most companies who do this do it because their company can't withstand scrutiny, and eventually the shorts are proven correct. A PR that says "we are doing great, and expect to have a blowout quarter" would be good, but not one that says "help, we are under attack." It makes them look desperate. If you believe the company will post good earnings, then just ride it out. THat may not help some of you with margin problems, but it does point out that margin should be used sparingly.
