Apple won't be the only tablet maker boasting eye-popping display resolutions, if Windows 8 tablet suppliers follow Microsoft's lead.

heh heh, everyone will support it but will they make it work.. The retina display is a vendor supplies items. As such, it is available to all tablet manufacturer. But the problem lie in two front for anyone to make it work effectively. The first one is battery engineering. Just pumping up the size battery won't work. From what I gather, Apple has done a lot of work to increase the ability for their battery to store more power than previous version. And the operating system has to know enough to turn off (or slow down) power consumption when part of the tablet is not in use. Both of this take time. The there is the cost problem. Given that the retina glass is a new item, it is costly (I read somewhere that Apple has to pay $75 for each of the glass used in Ipad 3 while they pay $50 for the one used in Ipad 2.. $25 is about 5% of the entry level unit and for some low volume manufacturer, probably their entry profit margin). And the discount manufacturer get is directly proportional to the number of components that they purchase, I am not sure anyone can match Apple's manufacturer cost. Given that Sharp and LG won't start shipping the glasses to Apple until April.. It is probably safe to say that anyone (except Samsung, of course) who want to build a tablet with the new glasses will have to wait.. Given that Samsung announced Galaxy note 10.1 and has not shipped yet and no prototype on the review circuit yet, it will be next year before anyone with the retina display. And by then Ipad 4 will be on the horizon.
