On the other kind of cc,

When I watch a YouTube video embedded in an SI post,
on a PC with Flash 11, I get a choice of Google's beta closed captions (automated) in a variety of languages, but
on iPad there's no closed captions for the same video.

I think I answered my question. The cc require Flash. Or it's Google being evil.

But in
iPad Settings, Video
I have Closed Captioning ON.
