It has always been about screen real estate. The only way to get more is to make the whole surface, or more of it, screen real estate. Why not? There are borderless TVs. This would get them there. Its merely a matter of engineering it.

This makes sense to me. Jobs did not want a big brick in his pocket clanking around with his keys.
