 OpenTV Appoints PR Veteran Marc McCarthy Vice President, Corporate Communications

 SAN FRANCISCO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 4, 2004--OpenTV Corp. ("OpenTV")(Nasdaq:OPTV - News), one of the world's leading interactive television companies, today announced the appointment of public relations veteran Marc C. McCarthy to the post of vice president, corporate communications.
 
 In his new role, McCarthy will be responsible for leading a wide variety of internal and external key strategic communications initiatives to the industry trade, business, and entertainment and consumer media. His duties will encompass brand enhancement of OpenTV's middleware solutions and related technologies in the domestic cable market, media messaging at all trade shows and conferences, both in the U.S. and overseas, and acting as spokesperson, when appropriate. McCarthy will also work closely with OpenTV's Chairman and CEO, James A. (Jim) Chiddix, and other members of the senior management team to identify important media opportunities and generate a high profile for OpenTV's market leading iTV products and services.

 McCarthy joins OpenTV from Denver-based Starz Encore Group LLC (Starz Encore), where he was the Executive Director of Communications & Entertainment Publicity for the past eight years. During his tenure, he guided the corporate communications team across a wide variety of initiatives including new programming strategies and publicity, approximately 75 award-winning original films and series, the launch and relaunch of several new and existing pay TV movie channels, brand marketing, industry and corporate affairs, the rollout of Starz Encore's Starz Super Pak and SVOD offerings, and the creation and implementation of the critically-acclaimed/award-winning BLACK STARZ! community affairs program, Reel History Educational Initiative.
 
 Prior to joining Starz Encore, McCarthy was Director of Communications Services & National Accounts for the management-consulting firm Pierce Kennedy Hearth in Danbury, Connecticut. His over 23 years of experience include acclaimed tenures with Anglia Television, Survival Anglia, Ltd., SAL Productions and International Television Enterprises -- splitting his time between London, New York and Los Angeles -- and the communications/marketing firm Jack Morton Productions in Atlanta and Dallas.
