The rich are taxed and quite heavily.

Its OK, Neil. I know a number of similarly deluded people. Bush actually has them feeling sorry for the rich.

I would also recommend Perfectly Legal by David Cay Johnston, a Pulitzer-prize winning reporter. Its subtitle is "The covert campaign to rig our tax system to benefit the super-rich----and cheat everybody else".

Hows this for a starter...?

Amount of tax cuts showered on the wealthy by Reagan and the two Bushes? Approx two trillion.

Amount of excess social security taxes (above benefits paid) collected by the government and then spent leaving nothing for the coming baby-boomer retirement than an IOU? Approx two trillion.

Coincidence or income re-distribution UPWARD?

Thats only the tip of the iceberg.

Read that book and you may not be so quick to trudge off to the polls to vote the straight Republican ticket. You might be marching in the streets instead.
